StandardNET | Michael Schiavo’s actions were selfish
I have tried to avoid making any comments on Schiavo but this just makes me angry.
In that letter, the writer compares Michael Schiavo to her mother who stood by her father for 15 years who had cancer. This isn’t comparing the same thing. I’d guess that the father of the writer for most of the 15 years could think for himself and not need a feeding tube. Not until the near the end of those 15 years would he need as much attention as Terry Schiavo needed for all of the 15 years she was kept alive.
The writer of the letter also states that there is a gray area between the definition of being alive and dead that needs defining. We can’t define that gray area though because each case is different. Not one is exactly the same as another.
Another thing the writer says is that Michael “portrayed Terri’s condition as comatose or vegetative to cover his weak lifestyle.” Writer, you are an idiot. You can’t fake a vegetative state unless the person who is suppose to be vegetative plays along. Unless Terry was wanting to commit suicide I doubt she was playing along. Also it is hard to fake catscans that show that most of your brain isn’t there.
The writer uses the ABCs of first aid in her letter as a way to tell if someone is alive. The ABCs of first aid is for first aid not to tell if someone is alive. Someone could still be alive and have his or her heart not beating. That is why you do CPR to keep them alive.
