Yesterday the CD/DVD drive on my laptop died so I took it back today and swapped it for a new one. I get the joys of setting it all up again
The good news is now I get $150 rebate as well as the original $30 rebate that I got when I first purchased it. So it will now be $150 cheaper than I originally thought! Yay! So it was a good thing the CD/DVD drive died.

I decided to spend all of my money and bought a laptop yesterday. It is a Compaq Presario V3010US. The specs:
- AMD Turion™ 64 X2 TL-50 (1.6GHz)
- 512 MB Memory (upto 4GB)
- 100 GB (5400 rpm) hard drive
- 8x DVD±R/RW drive with Double layer support and Light Scribe
- 802.11b/g wireless
- 10/100/1000mb ethernet
- NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 video card
- 14.1 in wide screen with Brightview or whatever that is called, 1280 x 800 Resolution
- Windows XP Home Edition with SP2
That pretty much covers the basics. I want to upgrade the memory to atleast a GB, get a wireless mouse (I don’t like touchpads) and possibly a cooling pad. This will have to wait until my next paycheck though. I’m completely out of money
It looks very pretty. I like it a lot so far. I hope I don’t have any problems with it. It didn’t come with any system restore disks. You’re suppose to make those yourself and it was telling me it was going to take 15 CDs. Screw that. I can buy the discs online for about $16 so I think I’ll do that.

I have installed Windows 2000 and all of the drivers on this new computer. Still need to install Firefox, all of the stupid messengers, and everything else that I use.
I was hoping to get SuSE installed but I think my DVD drive is messed up. For some reason it will install the 32 bit version of SuSE just fine but not the 64 bit. I’m thinking that the 64 bit might be on the second layer of the DVD and the drive is having problems reading that layer. I’m thinking I’ll go buy another drive tomorrow to see if that fixes the problem. Hopefully it will.
I just love the frustrations of building/setting up a new computer

Over the past little while I have been ordering parts for a new computer. All of them are here now except for the most important part, the processor. My excitement has gotten the best of me and I have put it together. So it is ready to start installing everything on once I get the processor which should come either Monday or Tuesday.
I could have had it all done today except the processor I bought from a local computer dealer was the wrong socket. It was a socket 754 when I need a socket 939. Something like this usually always happens to me. The local dealer didn’t have any of the socket 939 so he has to order one for me.
Enough about that, lets get on to the specs of the machine. If it wasn’t late, I would give you a link to all of the parts. I might add them later.
- AMD Athlon 64 3000+
- Two sticks of 256 MB DDR pc3200 (400mhz) RAM (I got two sticks of 256 because it was cheaper than buying one 512 MB stick)
- 250 GB SATA hard drive
- 128 MB Geforce FX 5200 video card
- 12 x DVD ROM
- 52×32x52 CD RW drive
- Floppy drive
- Mother board is a Chaintech S1689
- To top it off, a silver window case with lots of blue LED lights in the case fans and the front of the case
On this machine I plan to partition the drive into two parts (I haven’t decided on what sizes). One partition I’ll install SuSE Linux which should be showing up soon. The other partion will hold Windows 2000 Profeesional so I can still play all of my games
I’m hoping to start using Linux more than I use Windows.
On June 20th there will be some big EasyMOD news so everyone will want to head over to area51 on that day to find out what it is. I can’t say anything more until that day.
I’m tired so I’m going to go to bed. Good night.
