Have you ever visited a message board and saw that it uses a certain software and decided not to participate on that message board because of what bulletin board software is was running?
For example, you visit website A and see that it is running vBulletin. You think, ugh, vBulletin, what a piece of crap and quickly leave the site. Website B is using Invision Board and you think OMG, I love you Invision board! so you decide to visit the site every spare second available to you.
Of course if it is a phpBB board then everyone always wants to visit that site every time they can.

You don’t know how many times I have heard this and yes it is true. Usually when I heard this it was in the sense that having lots of money corrupts you and makes you some rich snob or whatever. But money can have the opposite effect as well. You can be so scared of becoming rich and having it change you that you limit yourself.
I’ve heard of people getting offered jobs that pay them twice as much at a much more stable job that they won’t have to do as much work but they turn it down. I’m sure there are lots of reasons for this but one person I heard this about I think a big part has to do with money. He has five young kids and barely makes ends meet. If he was making twice the amount he is now he could be living a lot more comfortably and not have to worry about money. He is one person that told me all the time that money does funny things to people and they want more blah blah blah. I honestly believe he is so scared of making more money and that it will change him so much to the point that he won’t further his career. It’s sad.

Here I sit at work with nothing to do wondering where my manager is so I can ask him if there is anything that needs to be done or if I can go home which I have been doing since about 10:30 this morning and it is now almost 2:00.
Yay for run on sentences.

I heard an interesting comment the other day. I can’t remember who said it but it was about sick days here in Utah. The guy found it weird that when he came to Utah, you are expected to go to work or school even if you are sick but in the rest of the country, people expect you to stay home.
Today a coworker was late. She didn’t call or anything. The art director made the comment that maybe she was feeling sick since she was coughing all day yesterday. He also said that she better come in today because she has things that she needs to finish. This irritated me because she is sick. One, she won’t be as productive as she could because she feels like crap. Two, if she comes into work she is putting the rest of us at risk of getting sick putting us in this cycle.
But this is expected of this art director. I think he has only taken a sick day once in the past year and a half. Whenever I call in sick he still expects me to work. It’s just not right but life isn’t fair …

On Friday I got a job offer. I accepted it. In two weeks I’ll be working at a new place doing the same thing I do now. This new company does the same things as the one I am at now but it is a lot bigger. 40 people instead of 6.
I get paid more and it’s better working conditions. I’m happy and excited! w00t w00t!

I just remembered today that my anniversary of being invited to the phpBB Modifications team is on the 20th of September. I was invited in 2003 so this will be the start of my fifth year on the team.
It has gone by very fast and I have learned a lot. I’m glad and excited to still be a part of phpBB. I love it!

I should have known from the start when we setup the interview through emails and there was a nice message at the bottom of his messages saying it was sent from his iPhone. Also when we agreed on a time he didn’t even give me a website, address or anything so that I would know where it was at. I had to send him an email to confirm what company it was for. He told me to grab the information off of the website.
I dress up nice, slacks and a tie. I was very interested in this job so I wanted to make an impression.
I get there early. The guy interviewing me doesn’t even shake my hand when I get there. I’m already nervous but now I feel even more uncomfortable. When we are walking to their conference room he looks me over and says “hmm”. I overdressed. He is wearing shorts and sandals. The environment seemed very relaxed there and almost like they didn’t take a whole lot seriously. I should have guessed this by his use of the word “cool” in his emails to me.
We start talking about HTML and things like that. I’m nervous and choke on some things but I was getting more relaxed as we kept talking. About ten minutes into it he asks if I’m still in school. I reply yes even though I’m not going this semester. I plan on going next semester though. He then decides that I need and want a part time job and promptly ends the interview. I’m sitting there shocked. Here he is deciding that I need a part time job when what I really want is a full time job.
So pretty much it was a waste of time. He is deciding for me what I want and I highly doubt I’ll be getting the job since I was only with the guy for maybe ten minutes. I don’t even think he looked at my resume which I sent in my initial email in response to the job posting. He would have known I was in school if he would have read it. I wish he would have been screened me more before wasting time for both of us.
Oh well. I’ll keep sending my resume out to different places and hopefully I’ll find something.
